Marta Babic (mezzo-sopraan)
The croatian mezzo-soprano Marta Babić is born in Zagreb, but currently residing and working in Antwerp, Belgium.
She graduated from Zagreb Music Academy with a degree in vocal performance, studying with Mira Zidarić-Orešković. After completing her studies, she took part in a vocal postgraduate course at “Flanders Operastudio Vlaanderen” in Belgium.
She studied with renowned opera singers and pedagogues such as Eva Blahova and Sherman Lowe. She also participated at many Master classes having opportunity to work with Ann Murray, Dunja Vejzović, Marjana Lipovšek, Yva Barthélémy, world known pianist Graham Johnson and conductor Pietro Rizzo .
She won 1st prize at the 46th Competition for Young Music Artists Darko Lukić for her whole evening recital in the concert hall Vatroslav Lisinski in Zagreb, Croatia and 2nd prize at the International Competition for Young Opera Singers “Pietro Mongini” in Italy.
In Croatia she has appeared as alto soloist in Mozart’s “Requiem“ ,she gave a concert of opera arias with the Dubrovnik Symphony orchestra and she has also performed at the 35th Varaždin Baroque Evenings, 36th Osor Music Evenings and 24th Zagreb Music Biennale. She is a regular guest performer with the Cantus Ensemble (Croatian ensemble for contemporary music).
In the Croatian National Theatre she sung the roles of La tasse and La libellule in the opera “L’enfant et les sortiléges“ by M. Ravel, soeur Mathilde in the “Dialogues des Carmélites“ by F. Poulenc , Tisbe in the “La Cenerentola“ by G. Rossini , Mercedes in the “Carmen“ by G. Bizet, Blümenmädchen in the “Parsifal“ by R. Wagner, Prinz Orlofsky in the operetta “Die Fledermaus“ by J. Strauss, Hänsel in the “Hänsel und Gretel“ by E. Humperdinck .
In the theatre Schouwburg in Rotterdam, she sang Dinah from the opera “Trouble in Tahiti“ by L. Bernstein, in the Zomeropera Alden Biesen in Belgium she sang the role of Giovanna from the opera “Rigoletto” by G. Verdi.
Apart from operatic engagements she´s regulary giving a lot of whole evening recitals in Belgium, France, Italy, Spain and Croatia accompanied by piano,harp, string quartets and orchestra.
